PENOFIN WOOD FINISH DECK CARE HOW-TO TIPS
Warm days and balmy nights beckon us outdoors. What better way to spend a lazy summer evening than relaxing on your beautiful deck finished with PENOFIN Penetrating Oil Finish? Penofin is not only the best way to protect and enhance your wood, this low maintenance wood stain also adds to your investment by freeing up the time you would spend sanding and reapplying other high-solid stains. We are building a new deck; how long should I let my deck season before I apply Penofin? It is important to let the wood acclimate to its new environment before staining. Thirty days of seasoning is a good rule of thumb. The wood needs a chance to release unstable sap, sugars, and other extractives. These residues take up space within the wood the Penofin protective properties would otherwise occupy. After an unusually wet winter our dock becomes slippery every time it gets wet. What could be causing this? A slippery deck surface could be caused by mold or mildew. Test the wood with a 50/50 solution of water and bleach. Let it stand for one-half hour. If the wood lightens, mildew is present. Scrub your wood with a solution of detergent and water with one cup of bleach, rinse thoroughly, let dry completely, and apply PENOFIN Marine Oil Finish with extra Mildewcide and 99% ultraviolet protection.
